A Letter to Missionaries
Dear friend,
You carry more names than anyone realizes.
The donor who has given every month for six years. The student who asked a hard question in October and deserves a real answer. The family that promised to pray for you, and the one you promised to pray for. Somewhere under all of it, a support goal that refuses to reach one hundred percent.
I know what that weight feels like, because I've carried a version of it. And I know what most software offers you instead of help: another inbox. Another dashboard demanding to be fed. Tools built for development offices with staff, handed to one tired person with a call list and an hour on Tuesday night.
We started Better Portion because we believe something simple: relationships matter more than software. Every hour a system gives back to you is an hour that belongs to a person: a phone call made, a thank-you written, a door knocked on, a quiet half hour that wasn't spent squinting at a spreadsheet.
Our name comes from the house in Bethany. Martha was anxious and troubled about many things: the meal, the serving, the details. None of it was wrong. It just wasn't the better portion. Mary sat down at the feet of Jesus, and He said what she'd chosen would not be taken from her.
Most days, fundraising admin is Martha's work. It has to happen. But it was never supposed to become your life, and it was never supposed to follow you into prayer.
So this is what we promise. We will build tools that handle the anxious work (the tracking, the alerts, the follow-ups) and hand the time back to you. We will keep them small, honest, and priced so a missionary can afford them. We will never measure our success by how long you spend in our software. The opposite, actually.
The better portion is the person in front of you. It always was.
We're just here to make more room for them.
In Christ,
